College football's bottom of the standings offers a stark contrast to the top, where teams are vying for national titles. On Halloween, the final rankings for the Bottom 10 were released, featuring a mix of struggling programs and one notable outlier that has slipped from the upper echelons.
Texas Tech sits at number five in the list, a position described in the rankings as the Coveted Fifth Spot. The Red Raiders hold a record of 6-1, making them the only team in the Bottom 10 with a single loss. The other nine programs all have losing records, with win totals ranging from zero to two.
Northern Illinois leads the group at number one with a 0-7 record. The Huskies lost 56-21 to Hawaii in what the rankings described as a decisive defeat. The result ended any chance of a turnaround for the team this season.
Sacramento State sits at number two with a 1-7 record. The Hornets fell to Ball State 34-17 in Week 8. UTEP is ranked third with a 1-6 record. The Minors lost to the University of Wyoming, a team referred to in the rankings as Open Date U. Akron is fourth, also with a 1-7 record, after losing 35-20 to Kent State.
The rankings include several other programs with single-digit wins. Minute Rice is sixth with a 1-7 record. Sam Houston State is seventh with 1-6. Kennesaw State is eighth with 1-6. The University of Louisiana Monroe is ninth with 1-6. Temple rounds out the list at number ten with a 2-5 record.
The inclusion of Texas Tech in this group is driven by their recent performance. The Red Raiders are playing in Lubbock, where the rankings noted a scene involving a practice field and a sunset. The text implies the team's presence in the bottom ten is a temporary setback rather than a permanent state, as they remain the strongest team on the list.
The rankings also list teams on the waiting list. These include Mizzou State, Charlotte, Green Bay, Ball State, Southern Miss, Wyoming, and Washington State. The list notes that these teams are competing for a spot in the main ten if current residents win their next games.
The Bottom 10 rankings are a weekly feature that tracks the lowest-performing teams in the sport. The list for this week includes teams from various conferences and divisions. Texas Tech is the only Power Four team in the group, while the rest are from smaller conferences or independent status.
