A computer model that simulates every NFL game 10,000 times has assigned a 47% probability of victory to the Kansas City Chiefs in their Sunday game against the Denver Broncos. The projection suggests the 5-1 Chiefs are statistically underdogs despite being 1.5-point favorites at -125 on the money line. This assessment comes after Kansas City suffered a 20-3 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.

The Chiefs face a challenging road contest at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. The model’s low confidence rating stems from Kansas City’s performance issues in their most recent outing. While the team leads the league with a 5-1 record, the simulation data indicates that their current form makes them an extremely risky selection for survivor pool participants who must choose a single winner each week.

Patrick Mahomes remains the engine for the Kansas City offense, having completed 64.9% of his passes for 1,474 yards and nine touchdowns while throwing four interceptions in six starts. However, the supporting cast showed signs of struggle against Seattle. Running back Kenneth Walker III, who has carried the ball 120 times for 701 yards and six touchdowns this season, was limited to just 36 yards on 14 carries in the loss to the Seahawks.

The Denver Broncos enter the matchup on a three-game winning streak and hold the 5-2 record. The defending AFC West champions have found stability under quarterback Bo Nix. Nix has completed 59.2% of his passes for 1,271 yards and seven touchdowns, though he has been intercepted three times. The model projects Denver as the favorite, giving them a 56% chance to win the contest outright.

The Week 8 slate features only 14 games due to four teams sitting out with byes. This reduced number of contests increases the impact of each pick for survivor pool players. While the majority of games feature home favorites, the schedule includes several tight spreads that offer strategic opportunities for those looking for value. The Chiefs versus Broncos game is one of the more notable mismatches in the projected outcomes.

Context for the model’s skepticism toward Kansas City includes the earlier season result between these two teams. The Chiefs defeated the Broncos 31-10 during the season opener on Sept. 14. Despite that decisive win, the projection model places more weight on the Chiefs’ recent defensive and offensive struggles than on their historical dominance over Denver. The 56% probability for Denver reflects the model’s belief that the Broncos’ recent momentum and home-field advantage outweigh the Chiefs’ superior overall record.
