Aston Villa defeated Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday, ending the visitors' seven-game winning start to the Premier League season. Nicolas Jackson scored both goals for the home side, exploiting defensive lapses to secure the result at Villa Park.

The match began with a quick strike for the hosts. After six minutes, a heavy touch from Manchester City defender Marc Guehi allowed Jackson to isolate himself. He cut inside Elliott Anderson and fired a high shot past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to give Villa the lead.

City dominated possession for much of the first half but struggled to convert chances. Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made key saves to deny Iliman Ndiaye, Rayan Cherki, and Abdukodir Khusanov. Ndiaye also struck the post before the break, keeping the score at 1-0.

Erling Haaland leveled the game in the 52nd minute. He powered in a header from a cross by Ndiaye, marking his 13th goal in 10 appearances this season. Moments later, Josko Gvardiol hit the crossbar with a fierce drive, missing the chance to put City ahead.

Villa regained the lead in the 60th minute. Ibrahim Mbaye broke behind the City defense and delivered a cross to Jackson. The forward's low finish slipped past Donnarumma, who should have made the save. City pushed for an equalizer in the remaining minutes but failed to find a breakthrough.

The victory moves Aston Villa to sixth place in the standings, marking their sixth win in seven matches across all competitions. Unai Emery has guided the club to this position despite losing six starting players from last season's Europa League final in the summer transfer window.

New signings Jackson, Suzuki, Mbaye, and Johan Manzambi have already contributed to the team's resurgence. For Manchester City, the loss adds to a challenging context as they appeal a guilty verdict on over 100 financial rule breaches from 2009 to 2018, which could result in relegation. Arsenal can move level with City on points if they defeat Everton later on Saturday.
