The Golden Knights have visited Pittsburgh on very few occasions, and their record there has been sparse until now. On Tuesday night, that changed when Vegas secured a 3-2 victory at PPG Paints Arena.

Tomas Hertl provided the decisive blow with 32 seconds remaining in regulation. He tipped a pass from Mark Stone past goaltender Arturs Silovs to end the game. This marked only the second time in franchise history that the Knights have defeated the Penguins in the city of Pittsburgh.

The winning goal came on the power play. It followed a sequence of events that left the Penguins frustrated. Forward Tommy Novak had scored and assisted during a third-period surge that briefly gave Pittsburgh the lead. However, Novak was called for tripping shortly after the teams returned to even strength. That penalty set the stage for Hertl's second goal of the night, which was the second power-play goal the Penguins allowed at home in this game.

Vegas goaltender Adin Hill made 23 saves to earn the win. The team showed better composure late in the game after a shootout loss to Boston the previous night. Trevor Connelly tied the score at 2-1 with 8:41 left in regulation on a breakaway. That goal came after Novak and Rickard Rakell erased a one-goal deficit to put Pittsburgh ahead for the first time in the period.

The Penguins lost their seventh game in the last nine attempts. Goaltender Arturs Silovs stopped 20 shots. Captain Sidney Crosby did not record a point in the loss. He remains tied with Marcel Dionne for sixth on the NHL's all-time scoring list with 1,771 points. The team played without forward Evgeni Malkin, who sat out with a lower-body injury.

Hertl's sixth goal of the season in the late first period was the only scoring in the first 40 minutes. Mitch Marner recorded the primary assist, extending his points streak to 11 games. Rakell scored for the fourth consecutive game during the third-period effort. The teams had met just over two weeks prior in Las Vegas, where the Knights won by a wider margin.

The Golden Knights will continue their road trip Thursday in Detroit. The Penguins will host the Boston Bruins at home on the same day.
