Michigan residents cast their ballots on Tuesday, November 3, for a slate of high-profile state and federal races. The vote determines the next governor and fills all 13 U.S. House seats in the state.

State data released before the polls opened indicated that 32.9% of active voters had already cast their ballots. This figure includes 750,469 individuals who voted early in person. Most early voting locations closed their doors on Sunday. Polling locations officially opened at 7 a.m. local time on Election Day for in-person voting.

The race for governor features Democratic nominee Jocelyn Benson and Republican nominee John James. Benson serves as the current Secretary of State. In the August primary, she defeated Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson. James, a U.S. Representative, won his primary against businessman Perry Johnson. Incumbent Governor Gretchen Whitmer faces a term limit and does not appear on the ballot.

A contested U.S. Senate race pits former congressman Mike Rogers against Abdul El-Sayed. Rogers is the Republican candidate. El-Sayed is the Democratic candidate. All 13 congressional districts in Michigan are up for election. The 10th and 11th districts are open seats with no incumbent running.

Ballots also include races for the Michigan Supreme Court, Secretary of State, and Attorney General. Voters will decide on two statewide proposals. All seats in the state House and state Senate are also on the ballot. Local races for city councils and commissions appear in various communities. Municipal ballot measures and school district millages are also included for voters in those areas.
