Oleshky Aid Corridor: Intermediary Role Claimed
A temporary cessation of hostilities in the occupied city is scheduled to begin on October 29.

A temporary pause in fighting for the Ukrainian city of Oleshky was announced Friday.
The Office of the First Lady stated that Melania Trump secured the agreement, which she brokered in her capacity as "Exclusive Intermediary." Both Moscow and Kyiv are expected to stop military operations in the city starting Thursday, October 29. According to the office, the halt in hostilities will allow humanitarian aid to reach residents and preparations for a civilian evacuation via a designated safe passage.
Neither Russia nor Ukraine has issued a public comment on the arrangement. Ukrainian officials have indicated, however, that a tentative agreement regarding the occupied territory has been reached. Melania Trump described Oleshky as a "front-line war city on the brink of disaster." She noted the population consists mostly of elderly residents facing shortages of medicine, food, and clean water, along with mined roads and limited electricity. She stated that without her intervention, aid delivery and evacuation of the elderly would have been impossible.
Under the plan, civilian leaders from both nations will visit residents to assess their needs. Residents wishing to leave will receive transportation to a destination of their choosing. "I anticipate some will want to go to Russia, and some to Ukraine," she said. White House communications director Steven Cheung called the development "amazing news" on X, describing it as a "major, positive step towards peace."
The announcement follows a call last week between Pope Leo and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the humanitarian situation in Oleshky. The pause comes as President Trump's efforts to end the war have stalled. He told reporters earlier this week, "Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much."
