Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara announced on Saturday that the military has regained full access to Starlink satellite connections. The update confirms that drones and other fast-moving equipment once again operate without the speed restrictions that hampered front-line operations for more than a week.

Khmara stated that the Ministry’s monitoring systems now register stable connections on objects moving faster than 250 mph. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy verified that both the commercial Starlink service and Starshield, SpaceX’s military-grade variant, are running at correct speeds. He noted that the restoration began the previous night and that sufficient speeds were available by the following morning.

Zelenskyy described the return to full speed as vital for front-line logistics and for intercepting Shahed drones, the Iranian-made aircraft that Russia regularly launches. He said, "Now the speed is what we need. The restoration began last night, and in the morning there were already speeds sufficient to use this connection. This is very important."

During the week of restrictions, Ukrainian commanders reported losing drones and facing disrupted missions. The interruptions to the satellite internet system built by Elon Musk’s company sparked internal debate over who authorized the changes. Trump has maintained that he did not order the limits, while also suggesting that Musk should not be held responsible.

The resolution coincides with a new diplomatic push to end the war. U.S. envoys are working to facilitate a conclusion to the conflict as Russia agreed on Wednesday to resume three-way negotiations with Washington and Kyiv next month. Additionally, Kyiv and Moscow agreed on Friday to a localized ceasefire around Oleshky, a Russian-occupied town in the Kherson region, a truce brokered by First Lady Melania Trump.

Khmara attributed the resolution to direct dialogue and Zelenskyy’s diplomacy with Washington. He emphasized that the restored connectivity is most critical for the military’s work in drone operations, logistics, and communications. Zelenskyy thanked American officials and other partners for taking the situation seriously and providing assistance.

The episode has further strained relations between Kyiv and Washington, a relationship already tested by a reported deal between Trump and Moscow regarding Russian diesel imports, which Ukraine viewed as a betrayal. The restoration of satellite speeds marks a tactical recovery for Ukrainian forces as they prepare for continued operations on the front.

Ukrainian officials continue to rely on the satellite network to counter Russian attacks. The return to standard speeds allows for the full utilization of fast-moving aerial assets that have been central to Ukraine’s defensive strategy.
