Southern Colorado residents are experiencing a stretch of unseasonable warmth that will last through the middle of the week. The calm conditions provide a temporary reprieve before a major shift in weather patterns arrives over the weekend.

Most areas in the Pikes Peak region and the eastern plains will see highs in the 60s and 70s by Wednesday. Colorado Springs is forecast to reach 68 degrees, while Pueblo will hit 71 degrees. Canon City is expected to stay near 69 degrees, with mostly clear skies and light afternoon breezes.

Higher elevations will remain cooler but still mild. Woodland Park is predicted to reach a high of 60 degrees under a mix of sun and clouds. Lower elevations in the mountains and valleys will see overnight lows drop into the 30s, while parts of the eastern plains may hold near 40 degrees.

The pattern changes on Friday as subtropical moisture moves into the region. This shift brings scattered rain showers to the mountains and a slight chance of stray showers in far southeast Colorado. Saturday will remain relatively quiet with isolated showers over higher terrain and mild temperatures.

A significant storm system arrives Sunday through Tuesday as a sharp upper-level trough drops in from the Pacific Northwest. This system will bring accumulating snow to the mountains and much colder temperatures to the region. Rain and snow showers may extend onto the eastern plains into early next week.

Winds are expected to ramp up late in the weekend and continue into the following week. The current mild weather provides a short window of calm before the colder, wetter conditions take over.
