Voters in California have a specific roadmap for the upcoming election, according to a guide released by La Opinión on Sunday. The publication outlined its support for candidates in major statewide races and detailed its positions on eight ballot measures. The recommendations cover contests for governor, vice governor, and several local offices across Southern California.

La Opinión backs Xavier Becerra for governor of California. The outlet argues that voters can rely on Becerra to handle the responsibilities of the office. It notes that presidents and governors have previously assigned him high-level cabinet positions. The guide states that the state needs a governor capable of confronting the Trump administration.

Fiona Ma is the endorsed choice for vice governor. Shirley N. Weber leads the list for secretary of state, while Rob Bonta is the pick for attorney general. In Los Angeles, the publication supports Karen Bass for mayor. It frames a vote for Bass as a move toward solutions rather than continuity of existing problems. The guide also lists Marissa Roy for Los Angeles city attorney. Roy promises to protect workers and immigrants, stating that the biggest theft is the stealing of wages, including unpaid minimum wage and overtime.

Robert Luna is the selection for Los Angeles County sheriff. Ben Allen is endorsed for insurance commissioner. The guide includes recommendations for seven U.S. House districts. These include Hilda Solís in District 38, Luz Rivas in District 29, and Gil Cisneros in District 31. It also lists Jimmy Gómez, Norma Torres, Linda Sánchez, Robert García, and Nanette Díaz Barragán for their respective districts.

On the ballot measures, La Opinión urges a yes vote on Proposition 38. The measure would fund disease prevention and research that the guide says was stalled by the Trump administration. It recommends a no vote on Proposition 39, which would require government ID to vote. The outlet calls the idea a false narrative about widespread fraud designed to limit voting rights. It also advises a no on Proposition 40, a tax on multimillionaires. The guide argues the tax belongs at the national level and that polls show voters are divided.

The publication supports Proposition 41 and Proposition 42. It cites preventing capital flight from California as the reason for the yes on 41. It supports 42 because it rejects charging for the mere ownership of already-taxed assets. Voters are told to vote no on Proposition 44, which seeks to penalize community clinics for staff and support costs. A yes vote is recommended for Proposition 45 to speed up environmental reviews and permits for housing and infrastructure projects.

State legislative endorsements include Caroline Menjivar for Senate District 20 and John Erickson for Senate District 24. Sara Hernández is the pick for Senate District 26. In the Assembly, Rick Chávez Zbur is endorsed for District 51. Local council races in Cudahy, Inglewood, Jurupa Valley, Lynwood, Pico Rivera, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood are also covered. School district candidates in Culver City, Pasadena City College, and Saugus round out the list. The guide is part of the outlet's regular coverage of major electoral contests.
