Apple Music: 25-Year iPod Tribute
A hidden easter egg on the streaming service’s error page features a clickable replica of the original 2001 player.

Apple has embedded an interactive replica of the original iPod into its Music website to mark 25 years since the device’s release on October 23, 2001. The feature appears on the site’s error pages, replacing the standard missing content message with a functional digital version of the hardware.
The virtual player allows users to click buttons and drag the scroll wheel to navigate a playlist. Each selection plays a 90-second audio preview directly in the browser, eliminating the need for external applications. The tracklist consists of songs from artists who were prominent in the music industry during the iPod's launch year.
User Kian identified the feature on the social platform X by visiting the specific URL music.apple.com/ipod. The interface also activates when visitors enter any non-existent path on the domain, triggering the display of the classic silver and black player design.
The hardware has been discontinued for years, and this web-based tribute serves as the primary method for fans to interact with the device's interface. The company has not issued a formal product announcement or indicated plans for a new dedicated music player alongside this digital homage.
For subscribers who prefer streaming over physical media, Apple Music remains available at a monthly cost of $11.99. The service is also accessible as part of the Apple One bundle, which groups multiple subscriptions into a single payment plan.
The easter egg is currently live on the web domain, providing a direct reference to the product line that defined Apple's consumer electronics strategy in the early 2000s.
