Ukraine and Netherlands Start Building Bliksem Air Defense System

Ukrainian and Dutch defense industries began work on a joint air defense project named Bliksem. The announcement came from the Ukrainian president's account on X, as reported by European Pravda.

The project was outlined after a meeting in the Netherlands. The Ukrainian leader met with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, along with heads of Ukrainian and Dutch companies in defense, energy and software. Both sides were asked to develop a joint air defense system. The president stated that teams are working on a specific air defense project called Bliksem and that work has already started.

The Bliksem initiative accompanies new Dutch funding commitments. Prime Minister Jetten said the Netherlands would allocate EUR 500 million in military aid to Ukraine, with a focus on strengthening air defense. The Dutch government is also setting aside EUR 1.2 billion in non-military assistance for Ukraine over three years for recovery, reconstruction and expanding opportunities for Dutch businesses. The Netherlands will contribute EUR 10 million to the Industrial Ramstein initiative for Ukraine.

The president said he and the head of the Dutch government identified priorities for practical and economic cooperation, including defense production, joint technology and energy projects, industrial development, and satellite technologies and air defense. No details on the Bliksem project were disclosed.

No further dates or production timelines for the project have been released.
