Alessia Russo scored three times against Benfica to become the all-time leading English scorer in UEFA Women's Champions League history. Her final goal, a converted penalty, marked her 24th career goal in the tournament. This total surpasses the previous record of 21 goals held by Fran Kirby. The hat trick was Russo's first in Champions League play. She now has seven goals in her last six matches for Arsenal.
The scoring surge follows a North London derby victory over Tottenham in the Women's Super League. Arsenal had faced questions about their ability to break down defenses recently. Russo's performance against Benfica in the UWCL league phase addressed those concerns directly. The win adds to Arsenal's points total in the competition's league phase standings.
OL Lyonnes also recorded a decisive result on October 28. Marie-Antoinette Katoto scored two goals in the first half against Inter Milan. Her brace gave her the lead in the Golden Boot race with five tournament goals. OL's victory contributed to a 14-goal differential in the league phase table. The team had previously drawn 0-0 with Chelsea during matchday 2.
Lily Yohannes provided the finishing touch for OL Lyonnes in the second half. The 19-year-old midfielder scored a long-distance lob that chipped the goalkeeper. The goal came shortly before the 60th minute. It was Yohannes' second chipped goal of the tournament. She played alongside Melchie Dumornay and Damaris Egurrola in a midfield unit that controlled the center of the pitch against the tournament debutants. Dumornay had an earlier attempt disallowed for a foul before Yohannes' strike.
Chelsea FC defeated Roma 2-0 to move into the top four of the league phase table. The Dutch international Wieke Kaptein provided both assists for the match. Ellie Carpenter and Kadeisha Buchanan scored the two goals. Most of Chelsea's attacking play ran through Kaptein, who found space between Roma's defensive lines. The win gives Chelsea seven points after the midway point of the season. This result follows Kaptein's goal-winning performance against Austria Wien on opening day.
Servette FCCF secured its first league phase win with a 5-1 victory over OH Leuven. Italian forward Gloria Marinelli scored twice in the first half. Her goals came in the 38th and 44th minutes. Despite OH Leuven creating more chances, Servette's attack proved more effective. Paola Hernandez and Joana Marchao added to the scoreline after halftime. The result places Servette in a stronger position at the halfway mark of the competition.
The league phase continues with teams accumulating points across their matches. Paramount+ will stream all fixtures for the season. Select games will also air on CBS Sports Golazo Network and CBS Sports Network. Players from these teams will continue to feature in discussions about individual performances as the league phase progresses.
