Romanian President Nicușor Dan formally condemned the Russian Federation's role in a sabotage operation targeting a domestic weapons manufacturer. The president issued his statement on social media, directly addressing the recent security incident in Brașov.
Dan identified a specific sabotage network as the mechanism for the attack. He described the attempted arson at the Carfil weapons plant on September 14 as an unacceptable violation of Romania's sovereignty and security.
The incident involved three suspects: one Ukrainian citizen and two Belarusians. Romanian intelligence agencies uncovered the group and determined that the operation was coordinated from Russia.
In his public remarks, Dan characterized the event as part of a larger hybrid war strategy. He noted that Moscow has spent years using an arsenal of tools to weaken European democracies. These tools include disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and efforts to influence electoral processes.
"No foreign state has the right to act in such a manner on the territory of Romania or other European countries," Dan wrote. He emphasized that Romania would act decisively to identify all individuals involved and protect critical infrastructure.
The president also highlighted the effectiveness of the country's intelligence services in exposing the network. He confirmed that Romania will continue close cooperation with its NATO allies and European Union partners to prevent similar incidents.
