Downtown Corpus Christi is set to transform into a massive cultural hub this Saturday as it hosts the 19th annual Día de los Muertos Street Festival. This free event serves as the central anchor for a busy weekend filled with Halloween-themed gatherings and cultural celebrations across the Coastal Bend region. The festival will occupy ten downtown blocks and runs from 1 p.m. until midnight. It features a wide variety of live music, art, food, and cultural performances. A significant community ofrenda will be set up to provide families with a dedicated space to honor deceased loved ones. This holiday focuses on remembering those who have passed while celebrating the lives they lived.
The weekend also brings a major shift toward horror and gaming at the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina. The Villain Invasion Halloween Fest takes place on both Saturday and Sunday. Attendees have the opportunity to meet actors from famous horror movies and participate in costume contests. Gaming tournaments are also a key part of the schedule. Visitors can receive a special-edition event poster if they bring two nonperishable food items for the Coastal Bend Food Bank, subject to availability. Weekend passes are priced starting at $20, with free admission for children aged 12 and under.
Sports enthusiasts and those who enjoy a morning activity can head to Water's Edge Park on Saturday morning for the Monster Mash Cupcake Dash. Participants are encouraged to dress up for the 5K, 10K, or 2-mile walk. Every person who completes the course receives a cupcake. The event is a charity drive, with all proceeds benefiting Family Counseling Services. This organization provides mental health care to families throughout the Coastal Bend area.
For families seeking a more relaxed pace, Asbury Methodist Church is hosting a pumpkin painting session from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Participants can select and purchase a pumpkin to decorate together. The church's pumpkin patch will remain open for visitors through the Halloween holiday. This offers a quiet alternative to the larger crowds expected at the downtown festival and the horror convention.
A new addition to the weekend lineup makes its debut Saturday at the Hilliard Center. Hocus Pocus Corpus runs from noon to 3 p.m. and offers free Halloween activities to the public. The event includes traditional trick-or-treating and door prizes. It also features a community resource fair and a specific presentation on renters' rights.
