Cedar Creek residents are under immediate evacuation orders after rising floodwaters threatened portions of White Mountain Apache tribal lands on Sunday morning. The White Mountain Apache Tribe Emergency Operations Center issued a "GO" status for those living along the river, instructing them to leave their homes right away.
Authorities have established two shelter sites to receive those leaving their homes. Canyon Day Junior High is open and ready to accept evacuees. The Chief Alchesay Activity Center is currently being prepared to take in residents. A third location, the Cibecue Elementary School Gym, has already reached full capacity.
Residents along River Road are on "SET" status. They are not yet required to leave but must prepare to evacuate quickly if water levels continue to rise. Officials advise packing essential medications, clothing, flashlights, and phone chargers. Residents should also know their exit routes and check on elderly neighbors.
The Emergency Operations Center states that transportation is available for individuals who need assistance. Residents are instructed to follow directions from local law enforcement and Emergency Operations Center personnel in the area.
The tribe urges the public to monitor the White Mountain Apache Tribe EOC Facebook page for updates. Listeners can also tune in to KNNB radio for the latest information on the situation.
The flooding event began on Sunday morning, prompting the initial evacuation orders for the Cedar Creek area. Officials maintain that the situation remains active, with shelters filling as more residents respond to the directives.
